In December, the first stage of a series of renovations began when new carpet was installed on the first floor. As part of the recarpeting, the furniture on the first floor was rearranged to better meet student, faculty and staff needs. One of the biggest differences, however, is to the entrance/ exit doors for the building. The exit doors and the door into Library 107 from the library have been permanently closed. The entrance doors now serve as both the entrance to and exit from the building. Sometime during winter term, the inside set of doors will be replaced with an automated horizontal sliding door. This will greatly improve the ease of entering and exiting the building for everyone. Beginning sometime in late spring/early summer, construction
will start in the area under the overhang to the east side (where
the entrance to the building is located). The entire area will be
enclosed and will contain three classrooms (in addition to Library
107) and an "Internet Café." Handicapped accessible
doors will provide easy access to the building and first floor public
restrooms will be added. Campus food service will provide a similar
setup in the "Internet Café" as is currently available
in Roush Hall. This renovation should be completed by the beginning
of the fall term in September 2004.

OhioLINK's Chat with a Librarian service is expanding. Now, two pilot programs allow you, the user, to chat with a business or health sciences librarian from a participating OhioLINK library and have your research questions answered online. The new health sciences chat service will provide research assistance to faculty, students and researchers in the health, allied and life sciences. It will be offered Monday through Thursday, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and also from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. To chat with a health sciences librarian, go to <http://chat.ohiolink.edu/healthsci/>. The business chat service will offer assistance to business faculty, students, and researchers Monday through Thursday, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. To chat with a business librarian, go to <http://chat.ohiolink.edu/business/>. Both pilot programs will run from January 5 through May 13, 2004. |

Amy Parsons, previously Cataloging/Reference librarian at Chapman University Law Library in Orange, California, joined the library team as Reference and Cataloging Librarian on January 12th, 2004. She will be the liaison to Psychology, Nursing, and Physical Education. Amy holds a BA from Ohio State University, and a MLS from San Jose State University.

New Online Databases For 2004, we have access to two additional Ebsco databases, American Humanities Index, and Communication & Mass Media Complete. AHI contains indexing and detailed bibliographic records for more than 750 journals back as far as 1975. Due to very limited overlap, AHI is a good complement for MLA International Bibliography and H.W. Wilson's Humanities Index. CMMC will contain the entire Communication & Mass Media Index (CMMI), plus the world's best collection of full text communication and mass media journals.

William Butler Yeats Collection William Butler Yeats Collection is a complete electronic edition of
Yeats's work, bringing together 22 printed volumes and including critical
and fictional prose, poetry, plays, and autobiographical works. This online collection became available at the end of 2003 and can be accessed from library's Research Databases by Title or E-Books. In Search of Utopia Books about Utopias from ancient times to more current accounts are
displayed on the second floor of the library until mid February. The
display coincides with a new SYE course being offered this term - The
Search for Utopia. |
Martin and Me : Building a Community For All The Otterbein College Library will participate in honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by displaying a collection of photos, books, and videos dealing with topics relating to the life of Dr. King, and to the ongoing struggle for civil rights and equality. Materials will also focus on diversity topics and community. Please also use one of the library database: NewsBank to get more articles on Celebrating Martin Luther King and Black History. The display will be part of the Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Convocation, which will be held on Campus January 20th, 2004. The display
runs from January 10 through February 29, and will be located on the

New
Year, New Look. Exciting changes are in store for the Courtright
Memorial Library! Please come to the library and see for yourself
how different things look. But be ready for more, as the library building
continues to be renovated and improved.
Computer
Lab Moved . The computer classroom formerly in Library
107 is now relocated to Library 200, on the 2nd floor. Library 200 now
has 26 computer workstations, two laser printers, scanner, Elmo document
camera, DVD/VCR, and a data projector (the same equipment once found
in Library 107). In addition, Library 200 has had a separate air conditioning
unit installed, which should provide the appropriate temperature control
throughout the year. Library 107 will continue to be used as a classroom
and will have the same furniture and equipment as was formerly in Library
200. Basically the functions of the two classrooms have been switched.
